Snapshots #1

This will be the first post of a photo series I plan to do while in Hong Kong. I plan on taking photos of things that interest me and then showing them to all of you with captions. Enjoy!

I thought this was cheesy. Classic jumping in the air photo.

If God played golf, this is probably what a speck of sand in heaven's bunker would look like.

A woman cleaning out her nose. (And a tree made up of Toy Story aliens in the background)

Poop.

Time

I've lost track of time since I've arrived in Hong Kong. My cell phone doesn't work here, I don't own a watch, and my sundial ran out of batteries. I woke up this morning not knowing exactly what time is. I suppose this is a very different experience from when I'm back at home, where I immediately check the clock upon waking up for fear of oversleeping. I think I may enjoy my ignorance of time because of the freedom it gives me from daily stresses. Well, I better go, I'm late for lunch...I think?

Preparing for Hong Kong

I've been doing many things in preparation for my trip to Hong Kong on Thursday. Here are a few of my ideas:

1. Practicing dividing by 8

The exchange rate for USD to HKD is about 1 to 7.78. But for all intents and purposes, let's just say it's 8 (in the same way pi is approximately 3). If I'm bargain-hunting, I need to make sure buying 100 pairs of socks for 20 HKD at the Ladies Market is worth it.

2. Watching only 4 TV channels

If you don't have cable in Hong Kong, there are only four channels to watch from. So in order to ease the pain of TV shock, I've just been watching ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, and Oxygen.

3. Speaking Cantonese at restaurants

I've been trying to speak more Cantonese in Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, no one at PF Changs understands a word I'm saying.

4. Driving on the left side of the road

Let's just say Newton has bigger driving concerns than texting teenagers...

Opening

Welcome! I've started this new blog to document my travels to Hong Kong. Perhaps I miss blogging and would like a venue to talk about things in HK especially since I may have more time when I'm in Hong Kong.

The purpose of the blog will be to:
1) reflect on my time in Hong Kong
2) share observations of Hong Kong
3) be humorous in Hong Kong

Some of this might be serious, some might be funny, but most importantly, it will probably be more funny than serious.

Feel free to leave comments!
